Moritz Arke died in a house fire in Chicago on the 23rd of July 1894. He was a night watchman at the Chicago Malleable Iron Works and was either leaving for work or returning from work when a fire broke out in the butcher shop across the street from his home. He and another man, a Bohemian tailor named Frank Stech, ran into the burning buildings to save some children who were reportedly inside. He was killed in the fire. A newspaper article from the time gives his name as Max Acker.
He was survived by his wife, and four children, one who was born 2 months after his death.
