Evona Vivian (Ord) Buckley, of Meridian, passed away peacefully Thursday, 17 May 2012.
Evona was born in Nampa, Idaho on October 21, 1923 to Mayor Robert Lewis & Violet Ord. She was the second of four daughters. Evona graduated from the original Nampa High School in 1941 where she won many awards for her talent in dramatic presentations. She then attended BYU for two years.
She met her future husband, Edwin Buckley, at a church dance, ("would you like to take a whirl w/ this ole Kentucky boy?") while "Buckley" was stationed at Gowen Field. They were married August 6th 1944 and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1961.
After Edwin was discharged from the Air Corp, she began her unexpected adventure of being a farmer's wife. Together they farmed land on Black Cat Road in Meridian for many years.
Evona was the most famous cub scout leader in the Meridian (Idaho) 2nd Ward and for over a decade delighted 8 – 10 yr. old boys w/ her science projects, nature hikes, crafts and homemade treats.
Evona was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with many leadership callings in Primary, Relief Society and Sunday School.
Starting in 1957 until 1974 Evona drove one of the Meridian School bus routes and many times greeted the students w/ warm homemade cinnamon rolls or homemade caramels.
Evona was a beautiful woman, a magnificent cook & seamstress. She was very artistic, a nature lover, a family gatherer (especially at the holidays), and she performed countless acts of service for others. She had a great sense of humor and was a gramma extraordinaire, handing out many "pink pills for pale people" (candy disc) to all the grandkids, definitely a marvelous mother and loving wife.
Evona was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, her parents, two sisters, a daughter and a grandson.
She is survived by five of her six children, Dyan (Jesse Harris), Gary (Connie Jean), Mike (Alaine), Connie and Kelly (Betsy); 16 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Mother touched the lives of SO many. Rather than mourn the absence of the flame, we now rejoice in how brightly it glowed.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25, 2012 at 11:00. LDS Chapel on Locust Grove (5555 N. Locust Grove) between McMillan & Chinden Friends may visit w/ the family Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church before the service. Interment will follow at the Joplin Cemetery.
