Irene Ponder Napier, 94, of Mt. Olive, MS, passed from this life Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Lakeview Place in Magee, MS. Services wil be held at Colonial Chapel in Mt Olive on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 1:00pm with burial at Williamsburg Methodist Church Cemetery, Collins, MS. Visitation will be from 10:30am until service time on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Colonial Chapel in Mt Olive. Mrs. Napier graduated from Mt. Olive High School, Jones Junior College, and the University of Southern MS. She taught school 45 years at a number of schools in Mississippi, Florida, and Texas, and at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. She traveled extensively within and outside the United States. She enjoyed her friends and family and was known for her wonderful memory and her interest in the many people she met during her lifetime. She was a member of Cooley Springs Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Zeno Napier; parents, Arthur A Ponder and Janie Rutland Ponder; siblings, Alene Batte, Fred Ponder, Robert Ponder, Cecile Ponder, Mary Doris Ponder, and Elsie Ponder, and her niece, Carolyn Cross.
Survivors include her sister, Ruth Hollingsworth of Hattiesburg, a number of nieces and nephews, and numerous beloved friends, relatives, and caregivers. Pallbearers were Steve Ponder, Bert Ponder, Gary Hollingsworth, Jeffrey Hollingsworth, Ronald Jack Glenn, and Stephen Roberts.
Honorary Pallbearers were Joey Cross, Bob Shoemake, Roman Shoemake, Clark Graves, Lee Shoemake, Louis V Lee, Ronnie Hollingsworth, Nicholas Hollingsworth, Lynn Ponder, Chase Ponder, and Chris Padgett.
