"Harrell Bascom Gibbs arrived in Mason County about 1878. He was born in Alabama in August 1855. When he came to Texas is unknown. Still a newcomer, he married Mrs. Callie Teague Elkins in Mason County on November 2, 1879.
The couple settled in Pontotoc and Gibbs operated a cotton gin there. He assisted in surveying and establishing the new Mason/San Saba/Llano County line in 1885. As a result of this new line, Pontotoc was enlarged and Gibbs purchased Block No. 24 in Pontotoc. This was area that was in Llano County in 1886.
Gibbs was active in civic affairs, attempting to incorporate Pontotoc in 1893, being road overseer in his precint in 1880 and again in 1889; trustee in the local school district until 1891 and finally elected Mason County Sheriff in 1896 and re-elected in 1898. He became a court bailiff in 1899 and appointed postmaster in Wagram Post Office on January 23, 1913. He remained in the Wagram Post Office until late 1914 when he resigned."
