Mr. Dowie De Boer, age 84, of Hull, passed away Sunday, June 5, at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Dowie was born November 18, 1898, near Hull, the eldest son of Charles De Boer and Johanna Hofmeyer De Boer. When Dowie was a teenager, his father passed away, so he assumed the operation of the family farm near Hull.
Dowie retired to town many years ago and became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Nursing Home in Hull this spring.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Hull, where he served as secretary of the Sunday School for over thirty-five years.
Survivors include five brothers and sisters: Gerrit of Adrian, Minnesota; Gilbert of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Mrs. Gerrit (Ellen) De Leeuw, Mrs. Andrew (Bernice) Vande Griend and Clarence, all of Hull.
Dowie was preceded in death by his brother, August.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 8, at the First Reformed Church in Hull, with the Rev. Gerald A. Vander Velde officiating. Interment followed at Hope Cemetery, under the direction of the Kraai-Oolman Funeral Home of Hull.
