Finally home, James L. Barton was received into Glory on May 12, 2009 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born and raised in St. Louis, MO, where he met and fell in love with his childhood sweetheart, Claudette.

He graduated from Prairie Bible College, received a bachelors from SPU and received his Masters in counseling at PSU.

James held his ordination with the Evangelical Free Church of America served as pastor at Fox Creek EFCA and Enchant EFCA in Alberta, Canada, for 11 years, Charter Oak EFCA in Battle Ground, for 13 years, and was Minister of Counseling at the Hazel Dell EFCA for 18 years. In 1995 he founded Vista Community Church in Ridgefield. He was privileged to partner with Rev. Bob Kunz in founding the Chaplaincy at Southwest Washington Medical Center where he continued to serve until the LORD called him home.

James will be missed by his wife of 54 years; his children, Jim and Linda Barton, Keith and Lori Barton, Craig and Nancy Barton, Evan and Debra Irwin, David and Danita Shipps; 26 beloved grandchildren; and 14 precious great-grandkids.

Our Dad faithfully served Jesus, and is rejoicing now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Memorial services will be Sun., May 17, 2009, 5:00 p.m. at Battle Ground Baptist Church, 1110 NW 6th Ave., Battle Ground, WA. Gifts may be sent to Vista Community Church, 20018 N.E 22nd Ave., Ridgefield, WA 98642 for either Vista's Outreach Ministry or S.W.W. Chaplain Education Funds in memory of our Dad's life.
