Vallie Hayes Hughes died Monday morning, May 23, 2005 at the age of 87 in her Reno residence after a very difficult bout with lung cancer. A 40 year Reno resident, Vallie was born in Vidor, Texas on November 18, 1917. She moved first to Northern California circa 1940 before coming to Reno. Married in Reno in 1946 to George Hughes and widowed at his passing in 1985, Vallie worked in addition to being a homemaker at various people oriented jobs throughout her life, including waitress, change-girl and cabdriver. A lifelong Mormon and genuine people-person, Vallie leaves behind a good many grieving relatives, friends and neighbors.
