He was a hunter and fisherman, bagging his last turkeys when he was 86 years old. He planned many fishing trips on the Chesapeake Bay with friends and relatives and fished with the same charter boat captain for over 40 years.
His marriage to Flora Slifer in 1939 ended in divorce. He then married Mary Morton on June 27, 1959.
Jack is survived by a daughter, Barbara Brown and her husband Robert of Santa Monica, CA; a son, Richard Brill of Annapolis, MD; three grandchildren, Cristina Brill Sunderland and her husband David, Christopher Brown and his wife Alyson and Justin Brill and his wife Shanna; and three great-grandchildren, Heron and Haley Sunderland and Leonardo Brown.
