Frederica Rachel probably was born on the Nitch homestead, According to the records of Father Albert H. Ledoux, her grandmother Terressa Riddle (and other spellings) was a midwife, and possibly she attended her birth. She was the daughter of Peter Nitch and Annie Roydal(many spellings). Frederica Rachel probably lived and worked on the 153-acre farm until she married. The farm harvested crops and raised livestock. She probably had the life of most women of a working class society, who raised a large family and also had obligations to their birth family.
Frederica Rachel married Richard Henry Worthington on October 31, 1894, and sometime in 1897 they moved to Lorain, Ohio. Richard Henry had some advanced education and his occupation was mainly a machinist in the Steel Mills. While there, in addition to taking care of four children, Rachel also had boarders. They returned to Johnstown, PA, permanently about 1904, where their other five children were born.
On January 3, 1926, Frederica Rachel, at age 58, suffered what must have been a severe stroke. She was still in the hospital on February 4, 1926, when her husband died of pneumonia. Frederica Rachel was left with two young children to raise, one 14 and one 11. Her other children were well into adulthood. Sadly, she would endure the deaths of two young daughters in 1931 and 1934.
