Death: May 9, 2012

Irvin S. Heflin peacefully passed away May 9, 2012. His wonderfully long life of 95 years began in Yale, Oklahoma. He graduated from high school in Stillwater and earned the Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Oklahoma A & M College in 1941. When America entered WWII, he worked at North American Aviation in Dallas inspecting newly built aircraft, then he entered the Army-Air Corps as a radio operator/gunner in a B-24 bomber for the 767th Bomb Squadron, 461st Bomb Group. His first mission over occupied territory in Europe was on Christmas Day 1944. Polio ended his military service, but the GI bill allowed him the opportunity to earn his second B.S. in statistics from SMU. He was one of the original employees at Oak Cliff Savings and Loan working his way up from teller to VP of Taxes and Insurance when he retired from First Texas Savings. He celebrated 65 years of marriage with his fun-loving wife, Margaret, who preceded him in death in 2011. His faithfulness in his belief in God helped him serve as an elder at First Presbyterian (Dallas) before changing membership to Brook Hollow Baptist Church(DeSoto) and then First Baptist(Dallas). He is survived by his two children: Margaret Clayton and her husband, Mark (Wylie, TX) and Robert Heflin and his wife, Gloria (Gresham, OR). He has 5 grandchildren: Esther Hill (Troutdale, OR), Christie Rehman (Gresham,OR), Bethany Taylor (Guam), Trudi Clayton (Wylie), and Kyle Clayton (Southlake). He also has 8 great-grand children. He is also survived by 3 sisters-in-law: Betty Heflin (Kernville, CA), Lou Jackson (Houston), and Carrie Raulston (Dallas). Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and a memorial service at 10 Wednesday morning in Restland Memorial Chapel with a military honor service at 2:15 at DFW National Cemetery Pavilion B.
