Janice J. Brangan, 75, of Cortland, NY died May 2, 2012 after a short illness at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Chester, PA She had gone to PA to visit her grandson and his family.

Born October 24, 1936 in Corning, NY she was the daughter of the late Reginald and Evelyn Hicks Fairbanks.

She grew up in the Homer area and attended Homer Central School. Before her retirement she had been employed at Smith Corona where she had been an Inspector for 25 years. She was a woman who was always ready to pitch in and lend a hand, whether it was to cook for a local function or babysit for someone or to make various crafts or sew a keepsake for the family, she was one to never let grass grow under her feet.

She is survived by her children, Dianne (Douglas) Benson of Groton, Vicky (Michael) Lyman of Cortland, Lynn (Kenneth) Thompson of Groton, William (Kelley) Brangan of Lafayette, NY; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sidney (Robert) Doan of Danby, NY and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, William M. Brangan III, siblings; Reginald Fairbanks Jr., Joyce Sands, Audrey Jasek and Gloria Barnett.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2012 4:00 p.m at the Bible Baptist Church, Route 281, Cortland. The family will receive friends 2-4:00 p.m prior to the services at church. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Homer.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Cortland Christian Academy (envelopes provided at the services).
