Rod Smylie
Birth: Sep. 28, 1895
Death: Mar. 3, 1985

Professional Hockey Player. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Smylie played for teams in the OHAJr, OHASR, Al-Cup, NHL, and St. Cup hockey leagues. Smylie played for the Toronto R & AA from 1915 to 1916, Toronto Dentals from 1916 to 1920, Ottawa Senators from 1923 to 1924, and the Toronto St. Pats from 1920 to 1926. After retiring from hockey in 1925/1926 he became a general practioner at the St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, for over 50 years. His two sons Rod Jr, and Doug also became noted athletes. Smylie died in Toronto in March 1985 at the age of 89 from years of heart trouble. (bio by: K)
