Barbara L. (McAllister) Kinn Brobst, 65, Alexandria, died Oct. 8, 2000, at Community Hospital in Anderson after being stricken ill suddenly at her residence on Oct. 6.
She was born Nov. 2, 1934, in Anderson, the daughter of Virgil and Vernon (Daily) McAllister, and resided in Alexandria since 1969. She resided in the Madison County area for most of her lifetime. She was a 1952 graduate of Anderson High School. She received both her bachelor's degree in elementary education and master's degree in education from Ball State Teacher's College in Muncie. She taught in elementary schools in Tucson, Ariz., and Tarrytown, N.Y. She returned to Anderson in 1964 and did substitute teaching, primarily at Hiawatha Elementary School. She then taught in the Lapel school system for several years. She left teaching and held numerous positions in Anderson including secretary to the YMCA Capital Funds Campaign, Stine and Wood Realty, Surbaugh and Son Realty and briefly worked at Delco Remy Division of General Motors. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-Elwood Branch. She became a member of the church in 1976 and was very devoted to the work of the church. She and her family were sealed together for eternity at the Latter-day Saints Temple in Chicago on Aug. 5, 1987. She had a keen interest in genealogy. She also enjoyed writing children's stories, poetry and mysteries. She was self-taught and had became fluent in the Dutch language with a desire to visit Holland someday. She was an ardent fan of celebrated Dutch concert violinist André Rieu and had traveled to many of his concerts. She received a great enjoyment from crocheting as a pastime. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Brobst, whom she married Aug. 8, 1969; two sons, Travis (wife, Jennifer) Brobst of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and John Henry Brobst of Anderson; sister, Mary Sue McAllister of Montgomery, N.Y.; stepmother, Marguerite McAllister of Anderson; two half brothers, David McAllister of Alexandria, Va., and Donald McAllister of Anderson; grandson, Caleb Brobst of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and she was eagerly anticipating the birth of a second grandchild in December; three nephews, John McAllister, Michael McAllister and Mark McAllister; and three nieces, Emily Cooper, Millie Werbel and Jennifer McAllister. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, Dale Kinn.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6025 W. Indiana 28, Elwood, with President Kenneth Anderson officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Alexandria
