Aileen Barksdale Cabler, 90, of Spartanburg, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital-Greenville. She was the wife of the late Wallace Harrell Cabler and daughter of the late Thomas Walter and Maude Bolt Barksdale.
Aileen was born February 14, 1922, in Gray Court, SC, where she lived the early part of her life, moving to Spartanburg when she and Wallace got married in 1954.

Aileen was a proud graduate of Gray Court-Owings High School, where she played basketball and ran track. She was also a graduate of Cecil's Business College in Spartanburg. She was a survivor of "The Great Tornado of 1933" in Gray Court, Laurens County, and grew into a strong resilient woman. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, active in her Sunday School Class, and worked alongside her husband as office manager and bookkeeper in their State Farm Insurance Agency.

Survivors include her two sons, Hank (Susan) Cabler of Annandale, Va., and Dale Cabler of Spartanburg, S.C.; her brother, Thomas Walter Barksdale, Jr. of Gray Court, S.C.; lots of nieces and nephews; along with a number of dear friends who looked after her in her later years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Zeagler and Phyllis Lark; and her brother, William "Bill" Barksdale.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2012 and 1:00-1:45 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM Monday, May 14, 2012, at the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615; Alzheimer's Association of the Upstate, 301 University Ridge, Suite 5000, Greenville, S.C. 29601; or The American Heart/Stroke Association, 3535 Pelham Road Suite 101, Greenville, S.C. 29615.
