Orlena Caledonia "Callie" Dobbins Carter was the first wife of Moscow Branch Carter. She eloped from her boarding school when she was sixteen, marrying him on June 7, 1851. They were the parents of five children: Mary Orlena ("Lena") Carter Gillespie (1852-1930), Walter (1854-1929), Sallie Ella (1856-1858), Annie Josephine (1858-1883), and Hugh Ewing (1860-1934)Carter. She died six weeks after the birth of Hugh Ewing Carter, July 27, 1860.
