Helen Kephart Lewis, 86, of Mabel, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home in Mabel.
Helen was born on June 6, 1911, in Preble Township, Fillmore County, to Cornelius and Olena (Hogenson) Erickson. She graduated from the Mabel High School and attended the Winona Teachers College in Winona. In 1930 she married Clarence "Ray" Kephart in Mabel. The couple resided in the Mabel area until 1957 when Mr. Kephart died. In February, 1959, Helen married Arthus Lewis in Hesper, Iowa. In 1961 the couple moved to Rochester where she worked as a psychiatric technician at the Rochester State Hospital. Arthus died in June 1987. In 1990 Helen returned to Mabel and became a resident at the Green Lea Manor Nursing Home where she has been since. She was a former member of the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper and the Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jason Kephart, a grandson, Joel Nash, one sister, and five brothers.
Funeral services were Friday at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper. Burial was in the Hesper Lutheran Cemetery.
Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
