He was born in Brasher Falls on June 2, 1879, one of five children of the late Sanford W. and Amanda Chittenden Hulburd. He graduated from B. & S. High School in a class of nine in 1895 and he is the first member of his class to pass away. He later attended Cornell University and graduated from the engineering course. He was superintendent for the state during the building of the Poughkeepsie Bridge and has been its superintendent there since its completion and also was superintendent of the Catskill Bridge.
Mr. Hulburd never married. Miss Annabel and Miss Ethel and two cousins, Miss Cordelia Ball of Fair Haven, Vt. and Donald Grant of White Plains, arrived Wednesday evening. An only brother, Leroy C. Hulburd, engineering assistant of the commissioner of canals and waterways, of Albany, was in Massena, when word came of the death and immediately came to the Brasher Falls home. Besides the two sisters, a brother and several cousins in this vicinity he leaves a niece, Miss Francene Hulburd of Albany.
Interment was made in Fairview cemetery beside his parents and a sister.
