Norma Lee Howell, 85, of Wanatah, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at home.
She was born November 2, 1926 in Highland Park, MI to Otis Gerald and Hazel Viola (Price) Cites.
Norma attended Michigan State University. She was a member of the LaCrosse Christian Church, was an accomplished and creative seamstress, home decorator, and was devoted to her family and animals, including her two beloved dogs, Pippy and Woofie. Norma enjoyed antiquing, traveling, and visiting historic sites. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In 1946 at the Wanatah Christian Church, by Minister Harold Ford, Norma married James W. Howell, who survives, along with six children: Diane (Ted) Woolever of Wanatah, Tim (Linda) Howell of LaPorte, James (Bonnie) Howell of Wanatah, Amy (Gary) DeSmet of Wanatah, Jonathon (Margaret) Howell of West Lafayette, and Nathan (Irene) Howell of Wanatah; 14 grandchildren: Eric, Alison, Jaime, Troy, Chad, Rachael, Matthew, Adrienne, David, Nicole, McKenzie, Cory, Blaine, and Hannah; and 12 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the LaCrosse Christian Church, Minister Bill Pullin officiating with burial to follow at Westville Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, May 11, 2012 from 3:30 to 8:00 PM at Wanatah Funeral Chapel and on Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 until 10:00 AM.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Porter County Animal Shelter.
