A memorial service was scheduled October 11 at University Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, with Dr. Thomas Peel and Dr. Marvin Judy officiating. Interment was to be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers include Jim Daniels, Tom Dittlinger, Tony Leal, Danny Fletcher, Leland Lee and Jack Bronstad.
Mr. Read was a graduate of Texas A&M University, Class of 1941, and did graduate study in business at Southern Methodist University. Retired as a lieutenant colonel for the U.S. Army, he was a double life member of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, a member of Dallas Founder Lions Club and life member of the Texas Lions Camp for handicapped children in Kerrville; a Free Mason, Shriner, supporter of the Mamie Mitchell Cottage of the Methodist Home in Waco and a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class of University Park United Methodist Church.
Born in Whitesboro August 8, 1920, he is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth Read; daughter Sherry Read; and son, Jim Read of Dallas; and two grandsons, Kelly and Kyle Read of Midlothian.
