Hairstylist, Business Magnate. Sassoon went to work at age 14 as a "shampoo boy" where he was responsible for mixing dyes, bleach powder, peroxide and ammonia. In 1954, he opened his first salon in London and eventually opened shop in New York. He is credited with creating a geometric hairstyle called 'the bob'. Due to the popularity of his styles, he was described as "a rock star, an artist and a craftsman who changed the world with a pair of scissors". It was reported that he was flown to Hollywood from London, at a reputed cost of $5,000, to create Mia Farrow's pixie cut for the 1968 film "Rosemary's Baby." A couple of years later, he moved to Los Angeles. In 1973 his hair-care products debuted to the world with great success. By 1980 he had his own American television talk show and authored several books, including 'A Year of Beauty and Health'. In 2010, a feature-length documentary, "Vidal Sassoon: The Movie", was released about his life, career, and influence on fashion and culture. (bio by: Louis Mata)
