Rose Dupont Carter was born in Ohio, Aug. 19, 1851. She moved to Leavenworth with her parents at the age of 6 and was a resident of Kansas since that time. At the age of 19 she was married to James Marke, who died in 1881. Two children were born to this union, Harry and Ward. In 1885 she united in Marriage to Daniel B. Merrick at Lawrence, KS and in the same year they moved to Hamilton, KS where she has since lived. They were the parents of 3 children, Pleny, Daniel and Frank. Mrs. Merrick joined the church at an early age and she still cherished a bright hope to the end.
Mrs. Merrick is survived by her sons, Harry, Ple and Ben, 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was a member of the Methodist Home for the Aged, at Topeka for a little over a year, where she died July 16, 1932. the funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Hamilton, Kansas July 17, 1932, in charge of Rev. C. H. Gerkin, of Wilsey, KS and interment was in the Hamilton Cemetery.
