For six seasons (1985 to 1990), he played at the wide-receiver position in the National Football League with the New York Giants. His mark on athletics began at St. Paul's Central High School, where he was a three-sport athlete, excelling in football (earning All-State honors), basketball (achieving All-Conference and All-Metro status) and track and field (state champion in the 100 and 200 meter competition). After transferring from Prairie View A&M (Texas) to North Dakota State University, he became one of the school's all-time greats as he helped lead the Bisons to a national championship crown in 1983. Selected by the Giants during the 2nd round of the 1985 NFL Draft, he experienced a championship season as the Giants captured Super Bowl XXI in January of 1987. Robinson produced career-high numbers that year (1986) with 29 receptions for 494 yards in 12 games played. He retired as a player in 1991, after he was part of a second championship squad as the Giants won Super Bowl XXV. Robinson would go onto serve as the NFL Players Association's Director of Player Development. He was enshrined into the North Dakota State University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.
