Iberia Sentinel, January 1922

William C. Mace, one of Iberia's oldest residents passed away at his home here Thursday night, January 26. The deceased was widely known throughout Miller and Pulaski counties, he having for a number of years been engaged in the mercantile business in Iberia and at Hancock in Pulaski County. He also spent many of his years on the farm, having at different times during his life, owned several farms in the vicinity of Iberia.

Brother William C. Mace was born May 14, 1839 and died January 26, 1922. He was born in Dent County, Missouri near the town of Salem. He was married four times, three of his wives having preceded him in death. There were two children born to the first union, one died in infancy and the other, Albert Mace of Springfield, still living. In the second union there were four children born, two livingóWill Mace of Crocker and George of Iberia, the other two having died several years ago. In the third union there were ten children born, all dead but two, having died when young. The two living children are Everett Mace of Iberia nad Mrs. Fannie Howell of Springfield Col. There were no children born in the fourth union. He leaves behind his aged companion, these children, 31 grandchildrenó26 living and five dead.

Long years ago he was converted in Camden County and united with the Methodist Church and later, some 35 years ago, he united with the Baptist Church of which he was a faithful member up to the time of his death. He was patient throughout his invalid days which were about three years. He was 83 years, 8 months and 12 days old. He died at 11:25 o'clock p.m. The end was peaceful as was his life. He was a faithful and loving husband and father, loved by all who knew him. Gone but not forgottenóat rest with God and the angels.

Impressive funeral services were conducted from the Baptist Church by the pastor, Rev. W.S. Birge, Friday afternoon, after which the body was laid to rest in the Iberia Cemetery.
