Catherine Hicks Skaggs did not die in 1842. She was living with her son John Skaggs Jr. in Monroe County, (West) Virginia in the 1850 census. She is shown at age 85, which would have her born in 1765. So her death date on the tombstone is not correct. Her death date is unknown, but it was AFTER August 1850. Her name is spelled with a "C" in the census and in other records. The death date of July 5, 1851 was sent to me by another researcher and is based on church records.
