William was a son of George Sense and his wife, Catherine Young. William was a farmer. He was married four times. First he married Miss Sarah Masters in 1844 and they had three known children; Alice Glick, William G., and Byron. Sarah passed away giving birth to son Byron. William married secondly to Lydia A. Davison. Their wedding took place in White County, Indiana on January 22, 1857. A son David is the only known issue from this union. By 1860 William had married his third wife, Mary Ann (maiden name unknown). William served during the Civil War. After the war he married his fourth wife a widow, Mrs. Sarah J. Kelly. Their marriage took place on May 10, 1868 in Iroquois County, Illinois.
