Raymond J. Block died Friday in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was 70.

He was born on Feb. 17, 1930, to Carl F. and Mary M. (Skropa) Block. He attended St. Benedict Catholic School and was a retired Shawnee police officer.

He married Billie Killingsworth in January 1951. He joined the Shawnee Police Department in 1952 and retired as assistant chief of police.

He was with the Shawnee Urban Renewal Authority and Community Development, and retired from Public Works Director in 1985.

He was stationed with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif., from 1948-1950.

He was preceded in death by his parents and Leo Block, his brother.

Survivors include his wife of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Terry Harmon of Oklahoma City; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Linda Block of Tecumseh and Tommy and Janet Block of Bethel; one sister, Louise Blythe of Oklahoma City; grandsons and their spouses, Mike and April Harmon of Oklahoma City, David and Lisa Harmon of Oklahoma City, Jason and Anne Block of Broken Arrow, John Block of Tecumseh, Steven Block of Edmond, Greg Block of Edmond and Tyler Block of Bethel; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at noon on Monday at the St. Benedict Catholic Church. The Rev. Maurus Jeab, O.S.B., will officiate under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Park. The family has designated St. Benedict Catholic Church for memorials.
