Funeral services for William H. Alexander were held in the Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. A. Alyea officiating. Burial was made in the Madison Pioneer cemetery. William Alexander was the only son of Samuel and Katherine Laugherty Alexander, and was born near Sparta in Dearborn County, Indiana, August 23, 1854. He passed away in his home in Center Junction at 2:30 a.m. Feb 11, 1939. He removed to Jackson county, Iowa, with his parents when less than a year old. In 1861 the family came to Jones County locating on a farm near Center Junction in Madison Township. Since that time the deceased has lived in this community with the exception of two years. He retired from the farm and came to Center Junction many years ago. In 1878 he was united in marriage to Amy Leech. Nine children were born to this union, five of whom survive. They are Bertha Baldwin, Oak Park, Ill.; John Alexander, Olin;Samuel & Zula Alexander, Olin; James Alexander and Audrey Fullerton of Chicago. He also leaves twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and two half sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife and four sons, Arthur, Frank, George, and Scott; two sisters, Margaret J. and Mary Bell and two half sisters, Mary and Lulu.
