| Birth: | Jan. 30, 1882 Hyde Park Dutchess County New York, USA | | Death: | Apr. 12, 1945 Warm Springs Meriwether County Georgia, USA | 32nd US President. Cousin of Theodore Roosevelt, he graduated from Harvard and earned a law degree at Columbia University. He later became a democratic Senator for the state of New York. He was elected Governor of New York twice, 1928 and 1930. Elected president in 1932, he is the only president to have served more than 2 terms (he served for 12 years, until his untimely death in 1945, just before the end of WWII). A geopolitical genius, Roosevelt laid the groundwork for American dominance in the post-war world. FDR steadily guided the country through the Great Depression and the war. He was succeeded by Harry S. Truman, whom he selected as vice-president largely to garner votes from the agricultural Midwest.

In memory of a wonderful President who helped lead us out of the Great Depression and most of the way through World War II. One thing still worries me, though. Would you have agreed with Truman's decision to drop the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki? -
