| Birth: | Dec. 25, 1813 | | Death: | Aug. 27, 1890 |  Brigadier General, CSA, Civil War. Bonham fought in both the Seminole uprising in 1836 and the Mexican War. Member of the house of representatives in South Carolina 1840-1857. In 1857 Bonham was elected to the US Congress to fill the unexpired term of his cousin, Preston Brooks, who resigned following his caning incident of Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts. He served in the US Congress until the secession of South Carolina. April 23, 1861 Bonham was appointed Brigadier General In the Confederate States Army. He resigned his commission in January 1862 to become a member of the First Regular Confederate Congress. He resigned this post to become Governor of South Carolina in 1863 until his term expired in 1864. Bonham was reappointed Brigadier General, February 16, 1865.
