Birth: Sep. 17, 1916
Tennessee, USA
Death: Apr. 22, 1948
Hamilton County
Ohio, USA

Don was born in Tennessee to William (Bill) Anderson and Nellie Florence Coffman Sands. He had lived in the area since he was about 12 years old. He had attended the schools in Cambridge City.

Don died in a tragic truck accident while hauling steel. This accident happened near Hamilton, Ohio in a hollow on the Stillwell-Beckett Road, being used as a detour because of repairs being made to Ohio 73 near Oxford.

Don was a truck driver for the Reinhardt Transfer Company of Portsmouth, Ohio. The truck was loaded with more than 15 tons of sheet steel and was being taken to Connersville. The truck was a huge six wheeler.

A Cambridge City telephone number found on Don's person was called Saturday morning by the Hamilton Sheriff's Office. It proved to be a filling station operated by Irvin Nicholson, Don's brother-in-law, for whom Sands formerly worked.

Don is survived by his widow, Eunice Barnes Sands and three little daughters, Joan, Nancy and Judy; his parents, William Anderson and Nellie Florence Coffman Sands of Cambridge City; three brothers Charlie and Robert of Cambridge City, and William in the Army; one sister Mrs. Lucile Nicholson, Cambridge City.

The Red Cross sent notice to his brother, William, on duty with the Army in Japan but he was unable to be here in time for the service.

Don and his family resided here in the Crockett Brick, southeast corner of Third and Walnut, Cambridge City, Indiana. A portion of the home was occupied by his parents.

Many relatives were here Sunday from distant points and the loss of this young man will be felt especially by his widow and small girls.

Rev. H.D. Halsey officiated at the graveside service Sunday afternoon at 3:30 with burial immediately following in Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City, Indiana.

You were gone, Uncle Don, before I was born. Never had a chance to know you. Been doing genealogy so I am learning about you. Wish I could have known you!
