Virginia Ruth Pippin Wooten, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at her home in Farmville, surrounded by family and friends. During the past two years, she had fought a courageous battle with cancer. Virginia continued to remind us in her final days how much her life had been blessed and that she was well prepared and ready to be with her Lord and Savior. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Virginia was born and raised on the family farm in Greene County. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Richard Pippin, Lady Ruth Gay Pippin Jones and Mr. Carl Jones. Virginia attended Maury School, graduating in 1949. In 1953, she married Roland Wooten, who preceded her in death. Virginia and Roland made their home in Farmville where she passionately lived, worked, and raised a family. Virginia often fondly recalled her friendships and "family" at Messer Chevrolet where she was employed for many years as a bookkeeper and title clerk.
Anyone who knew Virginia, knew that she was strong in her faith and values, and enjoyed time with her family, friends, and church family. She also loved playing cards and games with special friends. Virginia was a long time and dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Farmville. First Baptist always held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed volunteering; for many years, she gave of her time to Meals on Wheels and faithfully went each week to the local nursing home to visit and entertain residents. Virginia was a past member and officer of both the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband and parents, Virginia was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Russell Pippin and Bryan Richard Pippin.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail Edwards and husband, Brian, of Grifton; son, Ron Wooten and wife, Kristie, of Greenville; and her brother, Walter Pippin and wife, Mittie, of Farmville. Virginia is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Christopher and Marshall Edwards, of Grifton, Robert and Stuart Wooten, and Austin and Aidan Wood, all of Greenville. Virginia is also survived by many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
The family wishes to thank Virginia's many friends that gave of their love, time, and support during the past few weeks, and throughout her illness. The family also wishes to personally thank each of her doctors and caregivers in providing her with the best care possible. She was richly blessed to have each of you with your compassion, caring spirit, and attentiveness.
