Mr. Anderson was 88 years old. He lived in Rome, Georgia, and passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012, in a Rome health care center.
He was a faithful member and leader at Calvary Baptist Church, where he had served the Lord his entire life. Mr. Anderson had served the church for many years as chairman of the deacon board, as well as serving as a Sunday School teacher, trustee, and member of several pulpit committees.
Andy enlisted in the United States Army shortly after he graduated from Subligna School. He served in the 676 Glider Field Artillery Battalion of the 13th Airborne Division during World War II. He was a paratrooper whose unit jumped primarily from gliders. While in the Army, Andy met the woman who became his bride on September 7, 1945.
When Andy finished his military service, he worked in the insurance industry in Rome, but came to the conclusion that he wasn't cut out for that job. He began working with J. L. Hight in the automobile industry, but eventually co-founded his own company, Collier-Anderson Motor Company, with his business partner, Clayton Collier. Mr. Anderson spent over 50 years doing what he loved in the automobile industry.
Mr. Anderson was also a leader in the community. He was a past president of the Lions Club of Rome. He regarded everyone as a friend.
Mr. Anderson's funeral service was held in the chapel at Parnick Jennings, Sr.'s Good Shepherd Funeral Home on Thursday, May 3, 2012. Dr. Frank Wood officiated. Interment was in East View Cemetery.
