Mary's father, Jacob Fite Sr., signed "First Petition by the Citizens of Bourbon County Made [by] the Virginia Assemble, Oct. 27, 1788, for inspection of Tobacco on Licking Creek (in fork near Isaac Ruddle's Mill), it being the Chief Medium of Exchange in Early Days."
