POCATELLO -- William John Huls, 84, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2001, at his home in Pocatello, Idaho.
Bill, as he was called, was the fifth of seven children born to John Henry and Meta Onnen Huls on April 30, 1917, in Akron, Iowa. He worked on the family farm, attended school there and later attended machinist school before moving to Los Angeles, California.
There he met the love of his life, Fay Pierce, of Aberdeen, Idaho. They were married March 19, 1945, in Los Angeles, where he worked in defense, making classified parts used during World War II. When his number came up, he served in the U.S. Army, 125th Corps of Army Engineers. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and received an honorable discharge at the end of the war. They then returned to Aberdeen, Idaho, and bought a farm north of Aberdeen, where they raised five children. He also worked for Kraft Foods and J.R. Simplot Company.
William was an honest and hard-working man. He had genuine concern for other people. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served two missions for the church in Washinton, D.C., and San Bernardino, California, with his beloved companion, Fay. In 1994, Bill and Fay moved to Pocatello. The most improtant part of his life was his family. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife, Fay, three sons, Thomas (Nancy), Lon (Kathy), Ted (Carole); two daughters, Mona (Wess) Rhudy, Bavia (Steve) Gibson; one brother Marvin (Norma) Huls; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brother, Henry (Hank), Chris, and John, two sisters, Lizzie and Lena, and a daughter-in law, Pamela Huls.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 20, 2001, at 11 A.M. in the Highland LDS Third Ward (Butte and Hiskey Streets), with Bishop Randy Hayes conducting. The family will receive friends on this evening, Friday, October 19, 2001, from 6:30 P.M. to 8 P.M. in the Henderson-Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 North 15th Ave., Pocatello, and also one hour prior to the services at the church Saturday. Interment will follow services at 3:00 P.M. in the Aberdeen Cemetery, Aberdeen, Idaho. Military graveside rites by the Aberdeen American Legion Post No. 59.
The family wishes to thank all those from Southeast Idaho Home Health and Hospice who gave of their time and caring service to our husband and father.
