Alpharetta Eckert was the second child and first daughter born to Thomas Henry and Martha (Marshall) Eckert. She never married; devoting her life to being a teacher and then after moving to Atlanta, child welfare.
She was very active in the lives of her sister Daisy's sons; providing for their education and trusts for the education of their offspring.
She, along with her sisters, was an early suffragette and claimed to be the first woman in Atlanta to wear a sleeveless dress in public.
She was well known in Atlanta and was once named Woman of the Year.
She is buried in Westview Cemetery beside family members, Nancy North Marshall, Nancy's son, Thomas and his wife, Nelle Haddix Marshall.
