MYRTLE POINT, Or.. Sept. 1. The funeral of Orville Dodge the well-known Coos County pioneer, who died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. C. Carter after a long illness, was held yesterday. The attendance was not large, owing to many of his friends throughout the county being unaware of it.
Mr. Dodge was for years one of the foremost citizens of the Coquille Valley and was very active up until a few months ago, although 75 years old. He was well educated and a most versatile man. He was a lawyer, editor, mining man and historian. He wrote an able history of Coos and Curry Counties about ten years ago. For years he edited the Coquille Herald. He had mining claims at Salmon Mountain.
He is survived by his second wife and several children, the latter being Norman DOdge of California, Van Dodge of Corvallis, Mrs. Deyoe, of Riverside, California, Mrs. Willard, of Bandon, E.A. Dodge of Myrtle Point, Mrs. Hawley, of Corvallis, and Mrs. Carter.
Mr. Dodge was one of the most highly respected citizens and took a prominent part in boosting and developing Southwestern Oregon.
