|Birth: ||Feb. 28, 1851|
|Death: ||Dec. 25, 1932|
De Kalb County
S/O James and Mary Ann Maxwell. Mary Ann (the mother) died in 1857 and the 2 youngest children (Harmon and younger sister Mary Ann) were taken to Butler, DeKalb Co., IN to be raised by their aunt, Hannah (Ames) Ocker and her husband Abraham.
On 11 November, 1875, Harmon married Elizabeth J Edson in Defiance, Defiance Co., OH and in 1877 they moved to the Butler, IN area. They had 3 children: Cora, Charles Henry and Earl Stanley Ames. Elizabeth died in 1909 and on 13 October, 1915, Harmon married a widow, Zelma C (Bradley) Ball in DeKalb Co., IN. Harmon died in 1932.
Obits say Harmon was buried in Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville, OH but he has no marker there. After talking with the sexton in the summer of 2011, we found out that Six Corners was originally a "private" cemetery and therefore records were not required to be kept earlier and there are several "unmarked graves".
There was originally room set aside on the left side of the large Ames plot marker for Harmon (next to his first wife Elizabeth), so the sexton believes he is probably buried there with no specific marker and no records other than the obits and the funeral director's notations,-- all saying he was buried in Six Corners Cemetery. (**Personal note--this was during the depression, so there probably wasn't much money to spend on a personal marker either).
