Peter was the son of Andrew and Sarah (Mason) Bodge. Some time in the 1850s Andrew relocated his family to Leeds. The 1873 atlas shows he owned a farm on Fish Street, which is the street that runs parallel to River Road. The farm was a mile due east of this cemetery.
Peter was the second oldest of about eight children. In the 1860 census, when he was 24, he was listed as working as a teacher, and in 1863 he served on the school committee.
On June 2, 1862 Peter married Nancy Amanda Dow of Lewiston. In their early married life they lived in Portland, where Peter worked as a store clerk, and later apparently owned his own grocery business called Bodge Bros. His younger brother William worked with him. The Portland city directories showed that Peter and Amanda lived there from 1869 to 1873, but they returned to Leeds by the mid-1870s.
This couple had two children. Charles Adelbert born about 1867 and and Lillian Amanda born about 1869.
On January 14, 1876 their daughter Lillian died at age six. She is buried at the Island Cemetery in Leeds.
The Bodges remained in Leeds for about a decade, and then lived with their son, his wife and three children, at 72 Canal Street in Lewiston. Charles had job as a shoemaker. Peter was listed as an unemployed teacher in 1900.
