He was a native of Rome, N.Y., and lived locally since 1964. He served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. While pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting at Syracuse University, he also supported his family by working a full time job. He retired as an auditor in January 1986 from the Air Force Audit Agency after 38 years of government service.
Vincent is preceded in death by parents, Filomena Gulla and Leon Grande Sr.; and his brother, Leon Grande Jr.
He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Messick and her husband, Peter, of Poquoson and Kathy Clark and her husband, Mike, of New Bern, N.C.; five grandchildren, Melissa, Jason, and Jessica Messick, Lisa and Trevor Clark; and the proud great-grandpa of Lucas Power.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 100 Harpersville Rd., Newport News. Inurnment will be at Peninsula Memorial Park at a later date.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. (www.stjude.org/donate).
