Our beloved father, granddad, brother, uncle and loving partner, Harold McDonald passed away on May 5, 2014 while in the care of Austin Hospice and his loving partner, Barbara McNeely.
Harold was born on August 9, 1934 to Ernest and Susie McDonald. Harold grew up in Iowa Park, Texas where he graduated from high school. Harold was voted most handsome of his class, Senior Class President and president of Future Farmers of America. Harold enjoyed raising pigs while in high school.
After graduation, Harold enrolled at the University of North Texas and obtained a B.A. in Industrial Arts in 1955 with a teaching certificate.
Harold was drafted into the U.S Army and served from 1957 to 1959.
Harold met Barbara Spangler in October of 1954. They married on September 17, 1955 and were married for 49 years. Barbara S. passed away in December of 2004.
Harold and Barbara S. moved to Alice, Texas in 1959 where Harold began working for Tretolite. Harold was a Regional Sales Manager in Midland. Harold retired from Tretolite after 39 years with the company in 1994.
Harold was a devoted employee and continued working for Pride Well Service and Key Energy until 2005. After Harold retired in 2005, he moved to Austin and started a glove business selling gloves to Dentists and Tattoo Artists. Harold started the glove business from scratch and built it up to over 25 customers. One owner of a tattoo shop even visited Harold while he was in the hospital. All the customers loved Harold.
In 2005, Harold renewed an old friendship with Barbara M. and the two became inseparable. Harold and Barbara M. were together 9 years. Harold drove to her house every night to eat and watch movies and sitcoms such as Two and a Half Men, one of their favorites. Barbara M. was a vital part of Harold's life and she cared for him at the end along with Hospice of Austin.
In his spare time, Harold was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also loved shooting sporting clays. He enjoyed playing tennis and skiing with family in Colorado. Harold had a green thumb and spent a lot of time nurturing his plants and flowers.
Harold had a hunting dog named Mack, an English Setter that he trained to hunt Quail, Pheasant and Chucker. Mack is now 13 years old and will miss his hunting partner.
Harold was a gregarious, loving person who always saw the best in everyone. He was a very positive person who had an easy smile. He worked hard, played hard and lived a full life with the time given to him.
Survivors include his partner Barbara McNeely; two sons and one daughter in law: Eric McDonald of Austin and Blake and Debra McDonald of Flower Mound; five grandchildren: William, Katherine, and Margaret of Stillwater, OK and Connor and Dillon McDonald of Flower Mound, TX; brother and sister in law: Jim and Sharron McDonald of Corsicana, TX; sister and brother in law Sue and Dan Davis of Bedford, TX.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Susie McDonald and his wife Barbara S.
Visitation will be held at the Weed-Corley- Fish Event Center at 411 RR 620 South, Lakeway, TX 78734. A funeral service will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Event Center. Harold will be buried in Midland, TX at Resthaven Cemetery.
Rev. Bette Burris will officiate the funeral in Lakeway. Rev. Walter Thompson will conduct the burial in Midland.
