Mortimer Hallett, a well known horseman, age 67, died June 19, 1909.
Born in New York State. Civil War veteral of NY Co E 16th Ind Infantry. Had been a resident of Forest Grove for 25 years.
Leaves three sisters in the East. Burial at Forest View cemetery.

Mortimer was a Civil War veteran but the unit is incorrect. He served in Co M, Mounted Rangers/1st Minnesota Cavalry from 8 Nov 1862 to 7 Dec 1863 enlisting in Mantorville, Dodge, Minn as a Private and promoted to Bugler. Then he enlisted in Co H, 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery on 14 Feb 1865 in Rochester, Olmsted Co, Minnesota as a Private, was promoted to Sergent on 20 Feb 1865 and discharged on 27 Sept 1865.
He was married to Carrie Hallet.
He was living in Hillsboro, Washington County, Oregon in 1890 and listed on the Veterans Census as being in both companies.
