Samuel W. Quickel Former North York Councilman
YORK, Samuel W. Quickel, 73, of York, died at 4:54 p.m. Monday at Betsy Johnson Hospital, Dunn, N.C. He was the husband of Helen (Heron) Quickel.
The service will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 947 N. George St., York. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church. The Baumeister, Orcutt and Small Mortuaries Inc., South Queen and East Jackson streets, York, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Quickel was born on Dec. 16, 1920, in York. He was the son of the late Harris and Esther (Lentz) Quickel.
He was retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad.
A 1938 graduate of Tressler Orphan's Home, he had served as president of its Alumni Association.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was an avid golfer and was club champion at Yorktowne Golf Club in 1961 and 1962. He was a life member of the York County Amateur Golf Association and was active in the York County Junior Golf Association.
A former North York councilman, he was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1408, the Hawk Gunning Club, the 13th Ward Democratic Club, American Legion Shiloh Post 791, and the United Transportation Union.
Mr. Quickel also is survived by a son, Gene S. Quickel of Plano, Texas; two daughters, Lois Yates and Janice Botterbusch, both of York; four grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis Brooks of Frankfort, Ky.
Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Paul K. Engelhart.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
