Maysville……. Gwendolyn Ardelle Clouse, age 93, was born April 24, 1918 in Stewartsville, the daughter of Frank and Leota (O'Dell) Thornton and passed away February 21, 2012 in Cameron, Missouri.
On April 8, 1939 Ardelle and Loren Freeman Clouse were united in marriage. To this union two children were born. Ardelle was an elementary teacher and began her teaching career at Lone Oak Elementary, a one room school house. She later taught at Mark Twain Elementary in St. Joseph and Stewartsville Elementary totaling 43 years of service.
Ardelle loved to play the piano and played at school and church functions and also gave lessons after school. She was a member of Stewartsville Presbyterian Church and Order of Eastern Star Chapter.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loren; and two infant sisters, Ruth and Vivian.
Survivors include two children, Janice Clark, St. Joseph, and Keith (Becky) Clouse, Stewartsville; one brother, Thomas Elton Thornton, Miami, FL; four grandchildren, Bob Clark, Kim Collins, Stephanie Veale, and Rebecca Yager; ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012 at St. Joseph Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation: 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Mausoleum at the cemetery.
