Bertie Maurie Woods
May 12, 1920 - December 6, 2013
Clemson, SC

Bertie Maurie Forbes Woods, 93, passed peacefully and gracefully to her heavenly home December 6, 2013 in her residence. Born in rural central Texas, she was the daughter of the late Luther Forbes and Vera Etta Aiken Forbes. She was married to Rev. Leon P. Woods 63 years until his death in 2000. Surviving are her daughter, Jeanie Woods Gaddis (Leo) of Clemson, S.C. and son Forbes Woods (April) of New York and Dallas; four grandchildren: Benjamin Gaddis (Evelyn) of Clemson, SC, , Ettamarie Gaddis Wasson of Arden, NC, Noelle Woods Chesney (Thom) of McKinney, Texas, Jonathan Woods of Dallas and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother and three sisters, one her twin.

Maurie was a consummate homemaker, pastor's wife, and friend to many. In her early years she and her twin sister became renowned cooks feeding harvest meals to over thirty when they were but twelve years old. Married early in life, she supported Leon's schooling in college and seminary; clearly his accomplishments were enabled by a faithful and supportive wife. She will be remembered by her friends and family as a perfect hostess with gracious gifts of Christian hospitality and especially for her pies. Her passion in life was service to her Lord and care for her family. After her husband's death, she elected to move near family and has been a resident of Clemson Downs since 2001. All the Carolina great-grands have enjoyed having Mimi nearby.

A memorial service is planned at the Clemson Presbyterian Church at a later date. A graveside burial service will be held at Brownwood, Texas. Funeral arrangements are with Duckett-Robinson in Central, SC and Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas.

Condolences may be expressed online at www.robinsonfuneralhomes.com or at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, which is assisting the family.
