STATESBORO - Mrs. Hazel Bland Ahmuty, age 83, died Tuesday at the Heritage Inn and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native of Bulloch County lived for most of her life in Savannah before moving to Statesboro in 2005. She was a 1943 graduate of Portal High School and was a homemaker. Mrs. Ahmuty was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Daisy Bland, one brother George Emory Bland and her husband William C. "Bill" Ahmuty.
Surviving is a sister and brother-in-law Anna and George Gilmer of Aiken, SC; a brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Ann Bland of Fayetteville, NC; a sister-in-law and caretaker Eva Bland Blackburn of Portal; a niece Jackie Bland of Portal; a nephew Barry Bland of Portal; and several other nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service and burial will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. H. William Perry officiating.
