Hector Berlioz
Birth: Dec. 11, 1803
Death: Mar. 8, 1869

Composer of astonishing originality,who made dramatic innovations in harmony and orchestration. Most famous for his 'Fantastic Symphony', his other major works include the 'semi-concerto' for viola, 'Harold in Italy', written for Paganini, the operas 'Les Troyens' and 'Benvenuto Cellini', and the oratorio 'The Damnation of Faust'. Also wrote a highly amusing autobiography and some excelelnt music criticism. (bio by: David Conway)
