He was the first (of 11 children) child of Arthur L. Brantley Sr. and Shirley E. Brantley (both deceased).
He was raised in the village of Catskill, and was baptized at Mount Tabor AME Zion Church at a young age. He graduated from Catskill Senior High School in June 1973. Arthur was employed, in his younger years, at the American Valve Company, working along side his father. After leaving the American Valve, he went on to become a skilled laborer and worked in many construction companies with his primary occupation being a welder. He was very thorough and passionate about his job, making sure the job was done correctly. Many would call him a perfectionist. Arthur was an avid sports fan and a snazzy dresser. Arthur loved life and loved people and he was affectionately known as "Peewee" in his early years.
Arthur leaves to mourn five children, Arthur L. Brantley III, Mercedes E. Brantley, and Azar M. Brantley, Danielle and Daniel Brantley; five brothers, John, Jerome, Artis and Janeiro and Michael; four sisters, Sharron Blanks, Carlotta and Paula Gaddy as well as Ruby; and life partner Caroline Fister and a host of other relatives and friends.
