Gleanings from "The Kinmundy Express" newspaper, Kinmundy, IL
Compiled by Dolores Ford Mobley

March 26, 1931
- Word was received here Friday by relatives announcing the death of Humphrey GRAMLEY and Charles SUKOW of Westwood, Cal. The boys drowned while fishing in a lake there on Thursday. The bodies have not been found. On Thursday after work, Humphrey and Charles went to the lake to fish. When they didn't return home, a search was made to find them. The boat was found about half full of water and contained a pair of shoes, socks and an oar. The other oar was floating in the lake. Humphrey is the only child of Mrs. Elizabeth GRAMLEY, while Charles SUKOW, whose parents live near Gilmore, Ill. is like a son to Mrs. GRAMLEY. While she operated a farm here, Mr. SUKOW was employed by her to do the farm work, and then went with them to California in 1924.
