James Ernest Gattis, 82, died Sunday in a San Antonio nursing home following a long illness. funeral services will be conducted at 1P.M. Tuesday at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. L. C. Jonston officiating. Mrs. Lucille Kinkler, organist, will play "amazing Grace", "Rock of Ages" and "How Great Thou Art." Burial with full Masonic rites will be in Beeville Memorial Park with members of the Masonic Lodge serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Gattis was born Oct 18, 1900 in Scranton to Addie (Brown) and James C. Gattis. He resided in Beeville from 1906-1922 when he moved to Port Arthur. He was a retired cashier for the Texas Refinery and a member of the United Methodist church. Mr. Gattis was married to the former Emma L. Smith in 1922 in Clareville. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Rollin E. Gattis of Port Arthur and Robert D. Gattis of St. James, New York; one brother Robert D. Gattis of Beeville; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Simmons of Austin; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
