Mrs. Myrtle Rogers, 83, lifetime resident of Chetopa passed away Tuesday afternoon March 28 at the Chetopa Nursing Home, where she had been a patient for about three weeks. Mrs. Rogers had been in failing health for the past five years and had suffered a broken hip in a fall at her home on February 8th. Mrs. Rogers was born November 2, 1888, and was the last of ten children born to Martin V. and Mary E. Smith. On September 1, 1926, she was married to John Thompson. He died June 27, 1937.
On May 31, 1939, she married Rev. Walter M. Rogers. He preceded her in death in 1956. She was a member of the United Methodist church and a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian service. Among survivors are a niece, Mrs. Lois Reed, Chetopa; and two nephews, Don and Bill Smith of Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
